Thanks to the generosity of the wonderful fans and loyal racers who donated to our 2016 “Speed for Socks” campaign, Rocky Mountain Raceways was proud to deliver in excess of 8,400 pairs of socks to The Road Home shelter on Friday.
Led by General Manager Mike Eames, members of the RMR’s team sorted those socks, loaded up a trailer and hauled them the Salt Lake City shelter, where the staff there happily accepted the donations.
In addition, Fox 13’s Big Budah met us at the shelter and did a couple of live segments for the TV station’s midday news. Budah goofed around with Eames and Ron Duncombe during the live shots, but there was no joking about the impact “Speed for Socks” will have at The Road Home.
It has been reported that warm, comfortable socks are in major demand at homeless shelters during the winter months. In 2015 and again this year, RMR has asked its racers and fans to help us gather socks to help the less fortunate.
In that time we have been able to collect 16,492 pairs of socks for men, women and children. We celebrate that impressive number, but humbly acknowledge the generosity of all who donated to “Speed for Socks.”
As we celebrate the holiday season, it is our hope that “Speed for Socks” has helped to make even a small improvement in the lives of those who are less fortunate. And, of course, we anxiously look forward to 2017 and the upcoming racing season.
Thank you and happy holidays.
