Pierre takes another Pro Race Truck checkered flag on AFCU Super Oval
WEST VALLEY CITY ‒ Johnny Pierre withstood a relentless challenge from the Newhouse family in a 75-lap Pro Race Truck event Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
The race was part of RMR’s North American Big Rig Shootout on the America First Credit Union Super Oval.
Driving his No. 28 race truck, Pierre beat Mason Newhouse by less than a second to take the checkered flag. It was Pierre’s second straight victory on the AFCU Super Oval. He also won in August of 2015.
As it turned out, Pierre was the only finisher in the top 4 not named Newhouse. Mason Newhouse took second place, his sister Hanna Newhouse took third and father John Newhouse finished in fourth.
In other action Saturday, Lonnie Grzech drove his No. 12 big rig diesel truck to a victory in a highly entertaining 30-lap chase that featured 10 semi trucks on the 3/8-mile AFCU Super Oval. Grzech began the race in the No. 2 position and held back until he took over for good on lap 21.
Cory Riplinger finished second, less than a second behind Grzech. Ron Singer was the third place finisher and Glen Creed took fourth
Two-time defending champion Tim Farhner drover his No. 13 car to victory in the K1 Speed Super Stock class event. Farhner outlasted Corey Walker, who finished second, and Al Jones, who took third.
