“May Madness” means Trailer Racing, Jet Cars and more on Saturday
WEST VALLEY CITY ‒ Come for the fire and mayhem.
Stay for the red-hot racing.
As Rocky Mountain Raceways’ 2017 season kicks into high gear, one of the most anticipated events of the summer takes center stage this weekend. The event is called “May Madness,” and it promises to live up to that moniker with racing action on not just one, but two venues this Saturday.
The big draw, of course, are two things dearly loved by RMR’s loyal fans: Jet Cars and Trailer Racing. The thought of fire-shooting Jet Cars ripping down the Young Kia Drag Strip, and old RV trailers being tattered all over the America First Credit Union Super Oval certainly gets hearts racing. But that’s hardly all the night will offer.
The action will fire up Saturday at 1 p.m. with drag racing time trials. It will continue with qualifying for Sun Print Solutions Top Sportsman and Performance Place Top Dragster classes. After that, the racing will switch to the oval for practice, qualifying and heat races for Midgets, University Federal Credit Union Sprint Cars and Sommers Auto Wrecking Hornets.
A best looking trailer contest will get going at approximately 5:45 p.m., an hour later will see the Jet Cars make their first passes on the quarter mile.
Main events on the oval are slated to begin 8 p.m. Finals on the drag strip will get going at approximately 9 p.m.
The Jet Cars will make more passes at 9:25 p.m., with Trailer Racing on tap at 9:45 p.m.
Looking ahead to next month, RMR will host its annual Big Rig Shootout on June 3, with ground-rumbling Semis racing on the 3/8-mile oval. On June 10, the Street Car Shootout will invade the drag strip.
