Summit ET & Jr Drag Racing Series

September 28 @ 1:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Event Navigation

Come watch the local race cars take the stripe on the 1/4 mile Young Kia Drag Strip.

This is event is a combined event with both the Summit ET Series and the Jr. Drag Racing Series.

The Summit ET Series is made up of four classes of hand built race cars rushing to beat their competitor in a race of fast thinking and a little bit of luck.

The bracket racing format allows drivers in many different types of vehicles to compete on an equal basis against each other. Each car will a chance at a Time Trial to tune the vehicle and with that information, the driver then estimates how fast they can reach the finish line. That number is placed on the vehicle and becomes their “Dial In.” Whoever runs closest to their “Dial In” without going faster wins. The race is conducted in a Bracket format with a driver being eliminated in every pair.

Dial In – The amount of time the driver feels it will take the race vehicle to reach the finish line. (9.89 would mean the vehicle will reach the finish line in 9.89 seconds)
Break Out – A driver breaks out when they go faster than the Dial In.
Reaction Time – The amount of time it took the driver to react to the green light. A perfect reaction time is .000 or Trip Zip.
Red Light – The driver left the starting line before the green light came on. The driver is now disqualified.
The ‘Bye’ – There is an uneven number of racers this round so one driver gets a “bye” into the next round. This is usually determined by the best Reaction Time of the previous round. The driver still has to move through the starting beams to move on.

JR DRAG RACING SERIES

These racers are the future of the sport, ranging in age from 5-18 years old. The kids compete in their Junior Dragster race cars or full size street legal vehicles for the some of the older kids.

Each of these kids have to go through a NHRA licensing procedure to prove they have the knowledge and understanding to handle the track and car.

Jr. Dragsters have 4 classes in which they can compete, depending on their age. Each class will run an 1/8 mile track.
Beginner (Age 6-7) This is the youngest class of racers on the Drag Strip. They are allowed to run 13.90 seconds in the 1/8 mile.
Rookie (Age 8-9) These kids are allowed to run 11.90 seconds in the 1/8 mile.
Minor (Age 10-12) The ability to run 8.90 seconds in the 1/8 mile.
Major (Age 13-18) These kids can run the 1/8 mile in 7.90 seconds.
*There is also a Trainee classification for those who are 5 years old and want to get some experience in the race car. They will not be allowed to race or compete with another driver, they will always be on track alone.

The Jr. Street class is the newest youth program for those ages 13-16 year old. They compete in a street legal vehicle with an adult in the passenger seat.
