“Rice is just so meticulous making his way through the field. I enjoyed watching him make his way from eighth to first. I really thought (Alan) Larson had something for him but, Rice is just so smooth.” Mike Eames General Manager of Rocky Mountain Raceway explained after the ASA Pro Truck Main Event.

It was a Green White Checker race for the ASA Pro Trucks. Forty laps without a caution made for some exciting racing. Sam Harris lead the first half and the most laps of the main event. Johnny Pierre took the lead from Harris but it only lasted four laps before Rice came knocking on the door. Rice captured the lead on lap twenty-four and led the rest of the way but not without a fight. Larson made a late run on Rice and at one point event got along side for several laps but just didn’t have enough to make the pass. With only four to go Scott Luttmer took second place away from Larson and set his sites on Rice. “Three more laps, if I just had three laps I think I could have got it. We were just so good once we got out of traffic,” Said Luttmer. Luttmer held the fast lap of the race with a 17.125 two tenths of a second faster than anyone else in the field. Rice went on to capture his second win of the season and maintain his point lead. Larson came home third and Pierre followed him across the line. “After what we had in practice today I feel great about a top five finish, I was more nervous taking the green in this race than I’ve been in years. We were so bad that we changed more than we ever had and I just had no idea what to expect. I just didn’t want to be that guy starting towards the front and causing the big one. After about two or three laps I was like I think we’ve got something,” explained Pierre.

Rob Powers, former ASA Pro 4 West – Late Model Lite Champion made his debut in the ASA Pro Trucks racing the Hannah Newhouse number 46. “These trucks are a lot of fun. It took a little to figure out how much break to use and how far to let it roll in. I might have to get one of these, it’s a lot of fun” as Powers reflected on the race. With the unique point system Newhouse will received the points Power earns as long as she runs most of the events. Powers brought home a solid fifth place finish.

Shane Hubbard and Bobby Lathem made their first 2012 start and Bo Sharp and Kent Jensen made their second. All four suffered mechanical issues. Hubbard and Sharp started at the rear of the thirteen-truck field. “We just have to get the bugs out of the truck we only raced it once last season so we have so work to do” said Hubbard after coming in early with a seal issue on the right front rotor. Sharp suffered transmission problems while Lathem came in with a flat tire. Jensen was able to finish on the lead lap but was too loose to make any challenges. “I was just holding on”

Drew Reitsma won the first heat race. Doug Dugger and Rice battled hard in the second heat race and the near photo finish had Dugger by 0.010 seconds over Rice. The excitement in the announcers voice said it all as he exclaimed “That was so AWESOME I don’t event know who won that was so close” Grabbing the win gave Dugger the “Cool Move of the Race” award. Dugger will be presented with a $50 gift certificate to Ultra Cool Brake Fans. Ultra Cool is a proud supporter of the ASA Racing and the ASA Pro Truck Series. Ultra Cool can be found at
